Let The 'games' (?!!?) Begin!

February 10, 2006 / by olympics

In addition to the Opening Ceremony today marking the start of the XX Olympiad, it's amazing how many other sub-games are unfolding.

First, we learn that the International Ski Federation has suspended 12 skiers for high levels of hemoglobin - the reason..."to protect the health of the athlete". Who are they trying to kid?
Second, downhill ski sensation Daron Rahlves opted to skip out on the second Downhill training run - having set a blistering pace in the first run. Other competitors are lauding him for his "mind games".
Third, there are blood testing ambushes being conducted by TOROC staff who pose as tourists, media, etc. to take surprise blood tests from unknowing athletes - who are complaining about this strange and unprofessional approach.

Lastly, anyone wanna jump on the "Game" bandwagon and partner with Gretzky on some Canadian Hockey Team betting action??

In reverse order, Gretzky's wife was betting on football, and not hockey, Canadian or otherwise. And the Olympics became a non-event when professional athletes were allowed to compete. If the IOC is serious about "cleaning up" the games, they'll impose outright 4-year bans on entire countries whose athletes show dirty. Meanwhile, I'll watch re-runs of "The Honeymooners" before I'll watch the Turin "games."

There's a Leave It To Beaver Marathon on this weekend too!
