In the weeks leading up to the Olympic Games, Italian athletes are preparing for the Olympic Games as all other competitors are across the world, with one exception - they have the benefit of practicing on the slopes, courses, and tracks to be used during the Olympics. As the United States benefited from its "home country" advantage, the Italians are regularly skiiing, sledding, and snowboarding at the venue sites - in some cases recommending changes to the course environs to benefit them. As the US experienced an almost 300% increase in its previous medal count in Nagano, it is expected that Italy will well exceed its 13-medal count in Salt Lake City.
